I am trying to id a Case knife. It is Case Tested XX. I believe it to be a bomb shield, which I think dates the knife between 1920-1925. I also believe it to be a bare-head. I found this information just by searching around, I really know nothing about knifes. I am interested in the style of the knife and the handle material. And of course a value would be good. Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi;

Your knife appears to be a 62031-1/2 barehead jack pattern (would be 3-3/4" closed), circa 1920's to WWII. The "bomb" shield is scarce on older Case knives, but I do not know that the bomb shield dates the knife to any more precise time period.

Given the length of your knife , I concur with Steve's opinion that it is a 6231-1/2 . In the condition it is in , it is probably worth $100 - $150 . In mint condition it would probably bring $200 - $300 .

Thank you all for the great info. Does anybody know what these markings on the tang on the left in the photo should read, it looks like maybe a 5 and a C.

There shouldn't be any markings there . It looks as if someone "personalized" it .

The "C" that can be seen on this tang is of the script that Case used for the C in "Case" ::shrug::
