Re: What am I missing???
From the bidding history, it looks to me like there are two bidders who both hate to come in second place.

About a month ago an old Catt.box brought $240 on Ebay.It was a early box that had a glued on label.

For a few dollars more you could order about 30 boxes from a printer and rough them up a little Of course you'd have to run from old A.G. the rest of your life.

It's a nice box with great graphics, vibrant colors and has the Chief's head on it.
Think about what's going on right now re' the Washington Redskins. Items like this will soon be at an even higher premium than they are now.
The pattern number was 22226. Is that a particularly desirable pattern?

Re: What am I missing???
Yes I bought that box because it was the same as my JBF Champlin box and it was a very Rare one. First one I ever saw that is why I paid so much for it but this box I have and paid 30.00 for???
Re: What am I missing???
I had lost an auction bid for a Remington Boy Scout box a few years ago. My bid was $220 and $280 took it. At the time I had a RS3333 that had been in cosmoline for 70 years so I figured I'd have a real value with a mint box as well since I had never seen the combo together. I do have this knife with it's original box which was free because the box was never printed or labeled. The original owner was a Scout Master. He said they made a bulk purchase of knives that came in plain boxes. Nobody cared because who new?

Re: What am I missing???
Sometimes, what I consider to be a premium box sells on the Bay for a bargain price.
As an example, this New York Knife box sold on Ebay this month for $54.00.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TEENS-20S-ERA-N ... 2329276027
Why do I think it a premium bargain priced box?
Because when it was new it held 1/2 dozen New York Knife BS-1 Official Boy Scout Knives.
How many Official Boy Scout collectors would love to own such a box?

Charlie I was surprised the NYKC box didn`t bring more.It wasn`t in the best shape and maybe some folks didn`t want to buy from the seller(SMKW).But there can`t be too many of those floating around.

Re: What am I missing???
I suspect there isn't a single Official Scout knife collector that wouldn't want that box.
I just don't think they saw it.

I wouldn't want it because if I had it I'd end up spending a fortune trying to fill it up with knives.

Re: What am I missing???
To answer the question of why a box would bring so much money is relatively simple.Because the material they are made of is much more susceptible to the ravages of time than the contents that are made of much sturdier material.Anyone who has collected Lionel trains or vintage Japanese tin toys will affirm that.Very ofeten the box is worth far more than the toy itself.
