I have a hypothetical scenario for AAPK members that bid and buy knives on EBay:

You find a vintage knife on an EBay listing that is being misrepresented to inflate the value.

For this example, lets use an A.W. Wadsworth & Sons Germany knife.

From Goins' Ency. of Cutlery Markings: A.W. Wadsworth & Sons Germany (as well as any WADSWORTH stamping) imported brand sold by A.Kastor & Bros from 1905-1936.
From Blade's Guide to Knives & Their Values: A.W. Wadsworth & Sons was made for A.Kastor & Bros from 1905-1922.

The seller is advertising his A.W.Wadsworth Germany knife as an 1800s knife with some very creative historical significance. You're interested in the knife, so you let the seller know about the true age of his knife early in the auction. The Seller doesn't change anything in his listing. The auction continues. The bids start coming in, and the bids are thru the roof. The auction closes on schedule, and an unknowing bidder has won himself a relatively inexpensive knife for a very large sum.

I'm not much of a fan of eBay's "Feedback System," but it is what it is. If I feel like I've been mislead on a purchase, I do one of two things. (1) I follow my Grandmother's advice - "If you can't anything good about someone, don't say anything at all," and just leave no feedback and write it off to lessons learned. (2) I leave a Positive Feedback consisting of two words "caveat emptor" and mark them low on the star rating.
But best of all.......ask probing questions before you bid, even if you know the answers. If you get evasive or false answers don't bid. Another knife will come along. Some seller's just lie, plain & simple

A while back i had a run-in with some fool who would find excuses to not ship a knife i won. Then he flat out says, "It's worth $100", and re-lists the item. I had won it for $61. Since then, no more e-bay for me. My life is complicated enough. Plenty og good stuff in the AAPK stores anyway. All i need is some money ::doh::

useem, eBay is full of these kind of nuts. ::td:: I had a seller send the wrong thing; :( I emailed him and returned it the next day. After a few unanswered emails; I filed a claim with eBay and Pay-Pal. After investigating Pay-Pal refunded my money; ::tu:: then this nut filed a nonpayment claim; to no avail. :? I should have checked his feedback; 36 negatives in 12 months.

Contact Ebay if a seller refuses to complete the auction. No guarantee that you will get your item but he will be nixed by the admin.

Question on this item and it's description, "Mfg: 1940 - 1964 Never been sharpened etc etc blah blah - - "

This knife looks nice but notice the lettering on the shield is almost buffed off? ? ? What goes? Then look at the sellers "other items" Is this seller real or bogus?

Old Gar, I have bought from "Coolhoneybun" before; every thing was up to snuff and passed muster. The shield may not be as worn as it looks in the photo; lighting can really play tricks may be washed out by the flash; and his are not the best photos. I have bought some like that; and when I had the knife in hand; it was not like it appeared in the pics. If I still collected Case Jacks; wouldn't mind having that one myself.

I bought a 1976 Case Toe to have customize; and some of the "S" in Case shield is weak. I know it has never been carried or cleaned; must have came from the factory that way. Guess the person installing the shield; got carried away with the buffer.

OG, I use my wife's expensive profashionial style camera (Nikon D40X), but I've found that natural light is always key. I can never get a good picture inside the house. I usually try to get them on overcast days, when its bright, but no direct sunlight. They always turn out the best, for whatever reason.

OOOOOOOHHHH KKKKKKAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY. Thank you very MUCH  But OUCH!

I guess with the ten or twelve other (expensive) hobbies I dabble in, really cool pics will have to wait till I win the (aforementioned ) lottery! I looked up the D40X and from $300 to $600, it sorta sailed right out of my reach, at least right now.......... but the other tips about natural lighting and such may help me do a little better job. Thanks
