Is there an easy way to tell wether or not a knife has swinden pins prior to disassembly without knowing the history of Schrade knives?
Thanks

Re: Swinden pin knife
The only knives that are made with the Swinden system are the slipjoints, (as opposed to lock backs), Schrade Walden & Schrades made after the early to mid 1960s, or SFOs made by them after that time, like some Bucks, Craftsman, etc.
If you can see a pivot pin in the bolster then the knife is not a Swinden knife (or has been modified).
If you cannot see a pivot pin in the side of the bolster, it may be a Swinden knife or it may be polished enough that you cannot see the pin. Rough up the bolsters with 600 or 800 grit sandpaper where you think the pin should be, sometimes that will make them show up.
Hope this helps.
