Its been a while, just finished this folder

Post by #goldpan »

After months of adapting to retirement after my neck surgery and having to move to smaller quarters. I finally got the new shop sorta functional. Enough to get started anyway. This one is the first knife in a long time. My skills got rusty pretty fast. It took a couple of swings at this Laguiole kit knife to get it right. Back in February I did a similar kit in Moose antler as gift for my granddaughter. It had brass bolsters and liners. You can see it here. http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kni ... 37&t=48131 I wanted this one for myself!

Its all stainless steel. Bolsters, liners and blade. The blade is made from 12c27 Sandvic stainless. This one is wicked sharp! The liners came with bolsters at both ends. I removed the back ones as I prefer the look. The scales are Camellia wood. Camellia wood is really hard stuff. I sanded them smooth using up 1200 grit sandpaper followed by 0000 steel wool. A light coat of c.a.and let dry for most of the day. Re-sanded and hit it with the steel wool again then buffed it to a nice shine! Its going to be my fishing knife. I already love it! ::groove::

Very nice work. The Laguiole should make a good fish knife - I have noticed how similar the shape and blade are to traditional fish knifes.

Thanks guys! I really like it. Its hair poppin' sharp. Mel I have an old Imperial fish knife that a friend gave me. It has no scales though. So I was thinking I would try to make it look like Laguiole. Wont be easy, But should be fun!
