I decided to soak this rusty blade in some vinegar for a day. I pulled it out and the rust was gone but the pitting was still present.
I did not, however, feel like entering into a 12 hour ordeal with sandppaer and different grits to make 'er shiny again.....so I created a new finish....
Before and after pics (see rusty knife in this lot? - Yeah, that's it)

Make it sharp, and go cut sumpin...cool Ka Bar (I know that's not a KaBar, but that's what caught my eye)

Scott - if you explain that the finish is designed to keep sunlight from reflecting off the blade and alerting the enemy, then that pitting should add 50% to the value of the knife!
