A very special Mod!

Post by #goldpan »

First a little background. Then the knife! I am a middle aged man raising a granddaughter by my self. And recently we hit a milestone. :mrgreen: Ruby, my granddaughter, just turned 17. It seems like just yesterday I was awarded guardianship. She was 9 years old when I brought her home to live with me. ::ds:: I tried real hard to think of something special I could get her for her 17th birthday, but I am really out of touch when comes to modern teenagers.... I,m starting to sound like my old man.... since she already has a small knife collection I decided to give her a SAK, The Officers model. Of course I had to mod it!

I used the old covers for templates and cut out some slabs of Manzanita. After shaping and sanding and oiling and buffing it, I think it came out pretty nice! 8)

Even though she got some other neat things for her birthday she likes this the best! What could be more special than a custom from your grandpa?

Something tells me she'll treasure that knife for years to come.

The knife is beautiful and I'm sure your granddaughter is too. She's a lucky girl in many ways.
Good job.

Awesome Randy! ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu::
And the knife is cool too but I love the story about the granddaughter.
I have not had to raise a g-daughter alone, but my wife and I have helped raise about 3 of ours.
The youngest is about 15 now and loves to come back to our house (where she used to live) and clean my shop for me. Granddaughters are great! ::tu::
