My New Schrade EDC

Post by orvet »

This is a single blade EDC I made from Schrade parts. I used the frame of a Schrade 897UH that had 2 broken blades and a new 893 carbon steel blade.
I put bone handles on it and one of my new shields.
A HUGE THANK YOU to Ken (Paladin51) for all the leg work in having the shields made for me.

I did this knife for myself and I installed the shield it in a hurry. In the pics it looks like the shield is a bit crooked, but I didn't notice it until I looked at the pics. Oh well, it now resides in my pocket. :mrgreen:

I now have the Oregon shield available for custom orders.
I am hoping to have ORVET etched on the shields either by electro chem etch or have them laser etched.

I know the pics are not the greatest, but it was pouring rain here today and I have to take the pics indoors.
I hope you enjoy the pics.

That's got a nice pocket-worn look to it. I never carried one of my own knives until the past few months. Now I have like 3 or 4 of them, and I am really enjoying them. It's nice to do something for yourself every now and then. :)

Great work, Dale!

Absolutely love those handles and the shield is distinctive.

Great lookin' knife! Would be a great EDC. One of my most prized knives has the same stamp on the bolster as this one has on the blade ::hmm:: .
Thanks again, Dale. ::handshake::

Dale, does that etching process work well on brass, such as liners?

Thanks guys, I am glad you like it.

Not so well, at least not with the solution I have. I have tried it and was disappointed with the results.
The shields I got are stainless steel so they will etch OK, but brass and nickel silver are more difficult to etch. If it is possible to etch brass & n/s I think it would take a different etching solution than the one I use on steel.
