Pakkawood shortage??

Post by coffeecup »

In a discussion of pakkawood over on the Counterfeits board, on 18 December 2014, I commented that the primary supplier today of pakkawood was the Rutland Plywood Corporation.

I just found out that Rutland Plywood Corp (producer of "Dymondwood") was totally destroyed in a fire on 21 August 2014. I suspect that there may be shortages or price increases as the market adjusts, until/unless another supplier takes their place.

For folks who might be seeking alternate sources, "pakkawood" and "Dymondwood" are both manufacturers' names for what is generically known as "compreg", i.e., a resin-treated compressed laminated wood product. There are several other manufacturers, but it may take a while for their products to work into the system. If you use pakkawood/Dymondwood/etc, you might want to plan accordingly.
