Schrade rehab -Why I love bone handles

Post by orvet »

One of my customers in Australia had me get this NIB 8OT on eBay and add some do some file work and add some bone handles ..
I was a bit disappointed to see the spotting on the blades when the knife arrived, but that was what I had to work with.
The bone I used came out of the Schrade factory, I think it was from the Schrade Walden era, as I recall from the guy I got it from.

It turned out to be even prettier than I expected.
Bone looks so plain and dull when you get it in hand before starting to work on it.
But as you work it, the bone goes from coal to diamond!
I will try to find a pic of the bone I started with so you can get a before picture.

This is the results:
8OT Custom 1.jpg
8OT Custom 2.jpg
8OT with Schrade bone c.jpg
8OT with Schrade bone d.jpg
8OT with Schrade bone e.jpg

I hope you enjoy the pictures.

I agree with your comments about the dyed bone. It's hard to explain to people that the dull dark bone that you show them ends up with such warm color in it.

Love what you did with this. You kept the "tradition" of the knife pattern, while putting your own spin on it.

It came out simply awesome!

Fantastic job Dale, that is a real beauty...and a great pattern too! Should be an outstanding carry knife, utility plus beauty, nice work!

Real nice symmetry on the file work Dale! The fit at the bolsters is on the money. Also like the spun pins. Just a real fine job.
