Upcycled knife blade to ferro rod striker

Post by TripleF »

I dismantled a beaten knife awhile ago and left both blades on my desk, hoping something magical would happen and the could have further use in days ahead....

Yesterday I fondled and kept asking myself, what can be accomplished with this hunk of rusty steel if anything?

Well, I was wishing the tang was longer, when I flipped it over and thought ....it's longer now.

The idea was there.....just added some paracord to make for a more comfortable grip and thus.....I have a custom ferro rod striker!

Well aren't you just the clever one. I'm sure you'll get some use out of that on your adventures with your grandsons.

Very cool Scott! I was at a gun show a couple of weekend ago and a guy had some in stag that he made. Had a flint and magnesium combo on one piece of stag and a seperate striker on another. Thought they might get separated somehow and the 50 dollar price tag turned me off (and at last show hours and no one was selling anything). Took my money and bought a military issue tac vest for not much more instead.

Ability to start fire is critical, but stag embellishments don't make the fire start any quicker or burn hotter...

Nice use of resources there!
