Well, now that is a good question. ::hmm::

This is the way I would analyze that knife based on approximate prices and my personal experience with the brand:

Cost factor
1 sheet of .040” brass 5” X 10” = $10
Asst pins approx = $ 5
1set of bone handles = $15
Total = $30

Plus a few hours of my time for a knife that might bring $30 on ebay? ::shrug::
Personally, I would pass on that knife repair.

I had a few of those Parker Frost knives in the cutlery store in the 1980s.
The retail was about $20 and my price was about half of that.
Even then I thought that was way too much money to pay for one of them.
Most had poor fit & finish, blade rub was common and the ones with bone handles often had loose or cracked handles. Needless to say we did not reorder.

I rarely throw away knife parts, except for the bad Chinese knives. I would probably toss the blades and scrap the brass and nickel silver. As I recall most of those knives did not hold an edge very well even when new, so I would not even save the blades.

IMO, that would be a good knife to rebuild if a person was looking for the experience, but not if you were hoping to sell it.

Well sure! Just a couple of band-aids and it'll be good as new.

I'm sure there is someone out there that would list it on eBay as "RARE" for only $79.99 starting bid.

Go for it Dimitri!

 Yes, I was just joking!

Trying to bring a little humor to the knife repair forum :-P

I bought this knife in a large lot about 6 years ago, the knife looked fine at that time. I threw it in a box of "modern" knives that I usually give away or will sell some day at a yard sale. I was searching through the box about 4 months after I put it in there and first seen some other knives rusting badly on the carbon blades, I thought well there is a cell handle knife going bad somewhere.

As I looked through the box I picked up this Parker and seen the tops of the blades were showing the typical rusting from out gassing not to mention the shield and bolsters were heavily oxidized. I found the culprit as there were no more bad cell handle knives in the box. I set the knife outside in a covered back porch and left it there for a few weeks. One day I picked it up and opened the master blade and the damn thing broke clean in half! Just like you see it in the pictures ::doh::

I was so disgusted with it I set it back down and several months later I tossed it in the trash bin one morning, it now resides in a landfill!! ::disgust::

I appreciate you posting it as it is an excellent example of what sort of damage is possible with celluloid.
The knife was probably from the 1980s, and shows that even newer celluloid can be really bad.
In my experience some of the worse cases of celluloid off gassing have been from knives made in the 1980s & 1990s.
