Case Rope Knife

Post by orvet »

Here is a Case rope knife (1199SHR) that I rescued.
I forgot to take a before pic, ::dang:: so I will have to describe it:
One handle was about 1/3 gone with initials carved in the other handle.
The bolsters appeared to have been used for a tack hammer.

I got most of the dings out of the bolsters and replaced the old ratty wood handles with desert ironwood. I also threw a little rope file work on the backspring. It is finished except for putting my etch on the blade. I was concerned about getting a head on the pin that holds on the lanyard loop but it was no problem. It will eventually end up in my store or going to the OKCA show in April.

I don’t know much about Case, but if I am reading the AAPK Case Research Section right, it was made circa 1940-1964. (Thanks bamafan) ::tu::
I think Case used the springs of an old bear trap to make the backspring for this knife; it has a killer half stop and extraordinary snap! (Watch your fingers!)

Nice work! I love that style of Case. My EDC for 20 years has been an 11031SH which is similar but smaller.

Nice and clean, good lines. The file work is nice but not over the top.

Another winner Dale!

Thanks Bama.
I never know with Case. ::shrug::
But I checked the research page again and see I read it wrong.
Thanks for the correction, I will correct my post above. ::tu::

Sweet looking job Dale! I've got a few of those for future embellishment (if I ever get the time). They're one of the best work-horse knives Case ever put out.
