Nice old Boker, Cal! Hope you can salvage it but if not at least it's gone to a good home.

I was going to put this in a thread I saw a while back on folding guards but it fits here too. It does have a neat guard. I believe it's English but can't prove it. The seasoned collector I bought it from guessed it was mid 1800's and that the lead patch was a common fix back then. It's just a cool old knife with years af stories we'll never know. ___Dave

Re: Broken, Battered, Beat-Up, Bruised But Beautiful Old Knives
Here's a beautiful and rare oldie that I've picked up (these are the seller's pictures). W.R. Case & Sons 8387 gunstock whittler. Like Cal said above about his Boker, I probably paid too much for it but couldn't resist. Still snaps like a gator. Blades are near full, but tip is broken on file blade. Mark side pearl handle is intact but needs to be re-pinned as it's loose on both ends. As you can see the pile side pearl handle is broken.
I'd like to restore it. Probably nothing that can be done for the broken file blade unless a donor knife can be found. These are scarce as hens teeth so not much chance of that (plus all blades are stamped). I'm looking for someone willing and capable of replacing the broken pearl handles.

The last B in the title of this thread is Beautiful. That's not this knife. This one is a wreck, But I couldn't resist. The more I look at it, the more I like it.
I gotta wonder about it. Did the guy that did it love it so much he had to save it? Just do it to see if he could? One thing for sure; he didn't do it so he could say it was solid Gold and sell it on E-bay for a fortune.

Some of my junk that I am either thinking about rebuilding or looking for donors to or from. Doesn't that Keen Kutter want to make you cry, and that old Remington also.
This Wards will be a donor for another one I have with a bad spring.

Dimitri what would be the purpose of the blade with the fixed claw on the third knife from the top, right side?

My sentiments exactly, almost all of mine to this point are older just for that reason Old Cutler. I have a handful I bought just so no one would maybe throw in the trash.OLDE CUTLER wrote:Some of my junk that I am either thinking about rebuilding or looking for donors to or from. A wise and experienced member here gave me some great advice regarding selecting knives- "Condition, Condition, Condition."
Unfortunately it came after I had gone on a buying bend!
This group of used and abused from the top- Sears & Son, Keen Kutter,
WH Morley & Sons, Cattaraugus, Schrade-Walden, unknown, Canal Fulton, and a couple CaseXX.
I'd love to have seen the Catt. new. The bone still looks nice to me!

Josh Electric Cutlery Co is a Very old company that had its beginning in Newark N.J. in 1890 . The owners bought New York Knife Co. and moved production to Walden N.Y.in the early 1900's. The Electric name was dropped from the company in 1919 I'm thinking. Here's one I have.Jabb wrote:Howdy yall,
