Celluloid Handles

Post by thegreedygulo »

I know opinions vary when it comes to celluloid handles, but I think the fancy celluloid handled knives are some of the best looking knives around and do not hesitate to buy them. What do you guys think?

Here's a few of mine.

NICE ones as usual. ::tu:: ::tu::
That old spear blade stockman with the punch sure gets me all sticky. ::woot:: ::drool::

Interesting that some company's celluloid lasts forever, while other company's stuff self destructs with frightening regularity.

Very nice knives, Greedy.
I don't shy away from celluloid handles at all.
I think they're mighty handsome knives. I'll have to get some photos up of others I have.
I hope this thread continues.

I have quite a few celluloid handled Cattaraugus, Jack Knife Ben and this 3044 Winchester that are all at least 70 years old and no problems.

Here are a couple old celluoids that are kinda nice. The first is an old Robeson whittler that has pyremite handles on it. Has to refashion the tip a little for EDC use. Never seen one quite like the little "barrell" knife before.(the second knife no makers stamp).Darn little thing has great snaps and half stops!!!

Hi Philco....yes those are the "End of Day" handles that Kent is known for. Other companies had similar types of celluloid handles but hands down, Kent knives were the prettiest.

Thats a great group knifenut! I`m curious about those 2 fairmounts in the top photo. Do they happen to have milled liners? Love that lime green one with the big shield(what is that?) looks like it has a real nice spear master blade! Any chance of seeing more pics of that lime green fairmount? Thanks for showing!

Nice looking knife with beautiful handles. I've often heard these referred to as "end of day" celluloid because it is bits and pieces of several different type of celluloid. End of the day floor sweepings. Very nice!
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

H. Boker, Solingen (the highest form of pornography). Ahem.
I do have quite a few cell knives, mostly Schrades, with a few others as supporting players. I don't hesitate to buy them if they are otherwise desirable, except that I have found Western Boulder knives with motheroftoiletseat handles to be a gamble. And I have heard that the latter-day Germans are also a shaky proposition. Here is one from Western States which they called 'agate.'

Those are some dandy fingernail pickers! ::tu::
These are all cell stockman and cattle knives; all but three are Schrades or Schrade Cut.Co.s. I stuck them to a sheet of steel I cut to fit with those ittybitty neodymium super magnets.
