Post by muskrat man »

who do you think had a hand in this little shapleighs jack? 3 3/8" closed, appears to be ebony handles bar shield, half stops and swdges. I'll put my money on Empire, what say you?

Is there a pattern number, Kaleb?

Is the tang "Shapleigh", or "Norvell-Shapleigh"?

There is a virtually identical knife in the "Norvell-Shapleigh" catalog, pre-WWI, made by Empire. I suspect yours is from after WWI when the name changed back to "Shapleigh", but still Empire-made.
My opinion only.

I recently acquired a Shapleigh knife. In looking for info I ran across this post. I believe I have a knife which used to read "NORVELL SHAPLEIGH" I would like to verify this by finding a picture of a more clean tang stamp or documentation of such.

Here is the knife I have obtained. Wouldnt this be a pre-WWII knife? Any books have info which you can scan for me that I can put with this knife. Thx for any help.

UPDATE: Found a tang stamp here:
