One half is definitely abalone. The other half I'm not 100% sure about. It could be pearl, but it looks more like white abalone to me.

I haven't heard of white abalone but if it is pearl it has a lot of fire to it and some very strange patination. It doesn't look like paua shell either.Nice knife nevertheless.

Looks like MOP to me, some of the outer part has that yellowish color to it.

Rub it on your tooth, if it is gritty it is definitely shell.

I'm pretty proud to have this Baldwin.

I got these two British Army Knives in a trade with Iron Hoarder.

Big fan of the old knives also, part of the fun for me is the hunt involved in finding them in decent condition. Here are a few of mine, a Chris Wolf jack, Schatt&Morgan pruner, pre WW2 Camillus Engineers knife and a Camillus pruner.

Great knives fellas.

These timeless knives bring us together in mutual admiration. Many truths can't be improved upon, these are examples. I'm glad there are a couple knife companies and a few custom makers that rely on this principle.

Got to love the "Old Timers". Really diggin' the Chris Wolf. Interesting that it has five pins, the one I have has only four.

Phew, MB, that is a beauty. It looks really nice, great condition. I love EZ openers, the way they allow you to see a little more of the blade in profile is really appealing.
