::shrug:: I'm not surprised - that was a fine example and haven't we all overpaid at least once for something that we had to have? My guess is that the buyer already had one and is upgrading his/her collection - don't be surprised if a less than fine example makes it's way to eBay in the next few weeks.

Been there and done that. Don't know if I over-paid or not, don't care, but I sure did want it, latest being the 10th Mountain Division knife that I just bought. My bargin hunting blood pumps really fast when I spend over $30 for a knife.

I think every collector whether stamps, coins, flower vases or what have you has the same upgrade strategy, especially when your want list becomes small. The urge to buy knives never subsides so upgrades are easily justifiable because, after all, your offsetting it with the sale of your current knife and your increasing the value of your collection. My Scout knife want list is now under 30 knives many of which are deemed to be ghost knives (i.e. cataloged in books but nobody has ever seen one). So my buying choices are (a) to remain patient and maintain the hunt for a wanted knife (b) fabricate a replica knife or (c) upgrade a knife in my collection. The path of least resistance for me is option c.

Congratulations! You got a beauty. ::nod:: I doubt you'll find a better one.

I've said before, if it's rare, in your collecting wheelhouse, and you find one that's available, you better get it cuz you may never find another.

Not as nice or as valuable as that Ulster but I like it!

Nice knife Larry! ::tu::

The 6445R's with the oval "Case Scout" shield like yours are much rarer than those having the regular oval Case shield. In my experience the rarest are the ones with combination Prestolite wrench/screwdriver blade. There was also a 3-blade version. If I recall correctly the oval shield says "Scout Jr". Search through this thread, I bet you may find an example or two.

I don't have much in the way of desirable old scouts and camp knives but I do have some nice, functional models and one or two HOKs that have some tales to tell.

Missing here are some of my Colonials and most of my MIL-K-818 "demo knives" -- mostly Camillus with a smattering of Kingston, Queen and Imperial -- which I'll need to gather together and photograph for this thread...

Oh, and here's my favorite kind of scout, the Beer Scout. :mrgreen:

I collect miniature scout knives too. Especially celluloid bolster ones. Here are a few of them. I have one I can't find right now that has yellow celluloid handles with green celluloid bolsters.

I admire your collection a lot. I started collecting scout/utility type patterns a couple of months ago. I am far from your collection, but maybe one day...
