Re: The All Scout Knives Thread
I never collected the 2 blades because I have been a bigger fan of the 4 blades scout knives as a whole. However, in recent times, I have changed my tune in order to keep expanding the collection. I do have a really sweet Buffalo Bill NYK Co unofficial 4 blade.

I pretty much only have one of each but i get into the different variations of the same knife like slightly different blades and liner material .ronfish wrote:Do I have anything that you don't have 3 of?!!
Very nice , are they both brass liners or do you have the scarce version with a little different blades and silver liners ?

Ron, that knife is the "holy grail" for me! Have been trying to find one for several years. I have bid on a couple on eBay but did not win. Can you post a few more pictures?ronfish wrote:Do I have anything that you don't have 3 of?!!

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread
A couple Challenge Cutlery silver and copper handle scouts .
Very similar to the Case Bradford except the back handle is reversed .

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread
Both of these are the Case Bradford version have brass liners and the long pull. Did the Case version come with silver liners at some point or was it the Challenge Cutlery version? The Challenge Cutlery version has a main blade with nail nick in lieu of the long pull. I am unsure of the correlation between Case and Challenge, perhaps there is a Schrade connection?
EDIT: I see that you have a Challenge version with long pull. Interesting, never seen one with the long pull.

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread
Yes I have seen and owned several case Bradford's with silver liners , one distinct difference was a shorter screwdriver and a slightly different can opener , a little harder to find variation .

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread
Thanks! The only Challenge version I have seen previously is pictured in Holbrook's book. Until now I wasn't aware there was a copper version. Anyone know how Challenge and Case both came to have essentially the same knife? I'm thinking maybe one of them made them all, e.g. probably Challenge made them for Case under contract? or as Ron suggests, maybe someone else (like Schrade or Camillus) made them.
Thanks to both of you for the pictures. Now I have even more to look for!

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread
I believe the knives were made by their respected factories because the blades are very different between the two makers but how they came to have the same handles is the big unanswered question .Mumbleypeg wrote:Thanks! Re: The All Scout Knives Thread
I have never seen the copper version of the Challenge knife prior to Scoutknives posting the picture. That is a new one on me. However, I have seen the RS3333 with covered backsprings but have not come across one for sale. Yet.
Regarding the Challenge/Case mystery, it appears that George Schrade could be a common link, as he was involved with both Challenge and Case back around 1917. The interactions or contracts pertained to switchblades but who knows? I don't see much on the 2 knife makers crossing paths otherwise.
