Re: GOT SHIELDS?
Ironic, my favorite one is the only one that is technically "unofficial". Nicest shield and just a nice knife overall.Webb wrote:Recent purchases
P.S. to AAPK and thanks for sharing your new pickups! You'll find a lot of friendly and whipsmart folks with all sorts of knife knowledge in these here forums.

Re: GOT SHIELDS?
Here's another after Beechtree's post on Simonds Mfg Co... No doubt one of my favorite shields
This is Simonds Saw & Steel Co (circa - 1922-1940) though the company still makes saws today and are located in Fitchburg MA. This Pen knife at 3 1/2" has a double etch on master blade - both mark and pile sides - but no tang stamps which I assume was in lieu of the mark side etch with company name. The mark side etch is quite clear but the "Saws" part of the pile side etch reading Saws, Files and Hack Saws has some tarnish in that area. Handle covers are faux stag or jigged bone of black composition - not one of my favorites handles but this one shows no sign of shrinkage to date. I understand some of their knives were made by Camillus. Thanks for looking!!

Re: GOT SHIELDS?
This is an odd shield. I don't know what you would call it. Knife is a very old pre 1900 Maher & Grosh 3 backspring teardrop jack.

Interesting one, Roger. Somewhere between an acorn and a corn kernel ....peanut740 wrote:This is an odd shield. I don't know what you would call it. Knife is a very old pre 1900 Maher & Grosh 3 backspring teardrop jack.

Re: GOT SHIELDS?
Lee it is in pretty good shape, a couple of scuffs and abit of spotting on the blade but the ebony handles, the snap and lock up are superb. I'm very well satisfied with it.LongBlade wrote:Great shield on that one Greg ... How's the knife now that you got it in hand?? Hope no surprises!!

Re: GOT SHIELDS?
I don't know Steve. That sounds appropriate though judging from the bottom half of the shield.steve99f wrote:Nice Greg. Isn't that shield called the "bullocks" shield?

Re: GOT SHIELDS?
Very desirable knife in every way Greg.
I like that pattern Wazu.
I was wrong about the name and pattern, but I did see Tony Bose's example at the Lexington Ky show.

Re: GOT SHIELDS?
Philco is the EF Hutton of AAPK - when he speaks, people listen . He asked me to post some shields, too. Anything that's worth doing is worth overdoing.gsmith7158 wrote:Philco asked me to post these old Case shields here . So here they are.
Here are pictures and documentation for 15 different Case shields that I had. This significantly overlaps with what is available in the AAPK Research section for Case shields. There are plenty of Case shields that I don't have. Please add any that I am missing. If you would like them included in the collage I created, please let me know and PM a picture and I will be happy to add to the collage. Also, please correct me if I have made any mistakes in the documentation that accompanies the pictures.
The pictures are large so they will be slow to download and display when you click on them.
