Moose antler

Post by roofsc »

My nephew is stationed in Ft. Greely Alaska. He shot his first moose. He brought some antler home for Christmas and we had a local maker David Manley make this fixed blade. Mounted the cartridge he shot the moose with. There was some extra moose and i had a boot knife made for me from the moose too.

Neat stuff Paul. What did y'all do with the rest of the antler?

He has them on his mantle over the fire place in Alaska. Just brought small piece home for Christmas. Hoping to get another crack at that when he returns. Also shot a caribou 3 weeks ago. Fingers crossed to get a piece of that too. It was 25 below 0 when he was hunting

Paul, those look like well made knives, and having the associated story makes them extra special. ::tu::

nice knife, I have made quite a few knives myself using moose antler for the handle scales, it is the best deer antler in my opinion, really dense stuff if you use the first 6-8 inches from the skull. The paddle is usually too thin. And he used a .308! not a powder burning mag? Good job! Terry ::tu::
