I really like the one by Henry Hilden. Thomas Lofgren is from Sweden, here's a little info about him and his son: http://www.lofgrenknives.com/pages.asp?pageid=16

Here's a custom built puukko by Saku Honkilahti on it's way to me from Finland. The handle is stacked birch bark. He hand forged the blade and made the sheath.

Many thanks for the article on the Lofgrens. Its great learning Thomas has become a considerable force in Sweden's cutlery scene. I will now make it a point to attend the next Pasadena show and look him up.

I like your Saku Pukko. I'm no expert but it appeals to me as having beautiful, clean lines.

In a few minutes I'll be heading out the door, but I won't forget to try for those sheaths ASAP.

Here obviously are the three sheaths. The left is from Lofgren; the center is from Hilden; the right is from Burrichter.

My photos seem to have disappeared. Anyone have any ideas? I know the pictures weren't great, but gosh!

That's a really nice knife from Saku. Have you received it yet? I'd appreciate hearing your impressions, often times the knife is even better than what pictures show.

Yes, I got it last Monday. The puukko looks good in the photos but it is really nice in hand. Saku did beautiful work on the knife and sheath and I'm very happy with it. I think the knife is much nicer than the pictures can show. :D

Darn you puukko guys & your beautiful knives, now I've got to learn to read & speak a new language. Are there any duty fees involved in importing a puukko from Finland? Talking under
$ 200.00 declared value here. Any importing duty? The government has their hand in my pocket every time I turn around, just wondering what to expect. Thanks in advcnce for any info.

I've received three custom puukkos directly from the maker, and I've never been charged Customs fees.

I have been asked by Mike aka Vikingdog, to post this here. My brief from the client and thus my approach was to build a Puukko with an African "flavor" so to speak.

The result is shown in the following pics. The blade I made from an HSS 18 from an old table plane blade, the "bolster" is brass, with leather spacers, warthog tusk and African Black Wood alternating each other. I riveted and counter sunk the tang and added a false end of warthog tusk.
