Schmidt & Ziegler - Germany

Post by almyjmoore »

I found this little paring knife [5 7/8"] and this hunting knife [ 8 1/4" ]. The small one is marked "Schmidt & Zeigler" the hunting knife is marked "Schmidt & Ziegler" on one side and "Solingen Germany 5313" on the other. I'm pretty new at this, is this a common name in knives? Thanks, Al

Schmidt & Ziegler knives were made in Solingen Germany from about 1930 to 1975. They have a few different markings including "El Toro" and also an image of a bull. (Goin's Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings)

Blade's Guide to Knives and Their Values says they were imported from Germany by the H. Willis Company (Harlin Willis Burbank) of Louisville, Ky.

Most I've seen are very well made knives using excellent steel. I have an AAPK buddy who collects them. I'll ask him to visit this thread with any further info he may have.
