IXL look alike ?

Post by GerryD »

I thought this was an interesting knife very similar to the IXL I posted earlier. It has jiggered bone scales and what looks like a pipe tamper at one end. The finish is not a scratch on the IXL and the rivets are sharp and not at all comfortable on the plam. Its about 3.5” closed with two blades of 3” & 2” . It is stamped “warranted forged steel” so I’m presuming it is not English but European maybe German.

I don't know who made this knife. The pattern is a "physician's knife" or "doctor's knife". The end is a pill crusher not pipe tamper.

I've been told that it was made in Solingen and possibly Boker but that's a maybe. I'm still interested in the age. There's no England or Germany so is it pre 1894?
Thanks for the "physician's knife" I didn't know that.

I started my accumulating road to ruin with Doctor's Knives. Got sidetracked but still like 'em. That one is a sweetie, even if the fit & finish are not perfect.
