A.Wright & Son - First Impressions

I received this A.Wright and Son as a Christmas present, and I thought I would share my first impressions.
First off, I was a little skeptical after reading posts on other forums about their quality.
I was pleasantly surprised on its fit and finish;
No gaps in the backspring, good snap, well matched stag scales and flush pins.
There are some minor imperfections however;
Some spots on the backspring, a nick on the top of one bolster, no etch ('Real Lamb Foot' as shown in the pic on World Knives' website) and the blade is not evenly polished.
It's not very sharp either.
Also the blade is more of a coping blade (IMO) than a sheepsfoot.
It wasn't super expensive ($59.95), so I wasn't expecting a museum piece.
Overall I consider these minor as I plan on sharpening this one and carrying it for a while.
Anyone else have any experiences with them?

In my experience of A. Wright & Son pocket knives you have to be lucky. We have a large hardware store not far from my home which stocks them and I have handled quite a number. All function very well, but are let down by the fit & finish. I have one of their Barlows in my collection and again it is a perfectly functional working pocket knife, but the f & f needs improving, I think.

I concur. I've had 10. One was really good the other nine were good users with fit and finish that could have been alot better.

I picked up a couple when I visited Sheffield a few years ago. The horn handled one is a real looker but I agree, the fit and finish isn't pristine. The rosewood knife has great fit and finnish and I carry it quite regularly. Both have very strong pulls and were not very sharp when bought. I would also personally like to have the nail pulls a bit more south (as opposed to almost at the tip)...it looks like you have a better nail pull on yours. I don't think these knives were ever made to be great collectors pieces, they were made to be used as work knives. For the money, I'm happy with them. cheers
