My First Case Classic, Looking for info

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

My First Case Classic, Looking for info

Post by JWheeler331 »

Hello, I am not new to collecting Case knives however, I don't know much about the Case Classics at all other than reading a little here and there.

This weekend I was very surprised to see that my own father had this knife. He bought it several years back and it was just in his safe. I was able to trade it out of him and so now I own the knife.

I am looking for any info on the knife itself and also what it may be worth. Other than some finger prints on the knife it is a beautiful knife in every way. I gave it a good wipe down and it is now in my safe.

Here are a few photos for you to view. Any help would be most appreciated.

Just realized that this was in the box under the liner.
So I now know it is 1 of 1,000 made for SMKW.

Hi JWheeler331,
I've enjoyed collecting Case Classics as much as any other dated/brand I have. And, the 340 is a great pattern. The size and durability make them great for collecting and using. Cool things about that pattern and your knife...
There were but two Green variation bones produced. Both released in 1997; one jigged and one smooth. The 1997 green jig(like yours) is the only one in all of the 340's produced to have the bomb shield. In this case, it is the raised bomb shield.
There were 11 variations of 340's produced: 5 Jigged, 4 smooth and 2 Stags. And, the 340 was the last pattern released in the Case Classics Program.

The picture below has been posted before but I am posting again for your reference. This is the full set of the 340 production. I have one of the smooth bones that I rotate as an EDC.

Thanks a bunch for the helpful info on my knife. I have been collecting case knives for as long as I can remember but never worried about value or anything else. I just like Case knives so I buy what I like. If I see a Case knife that I like.....and can afford, I buy it. Only in the last couple of years have I paid more attention to different values or anything dealing with collectability. Always good to learn something new about the knives I love.
