If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Something you don't see every day

Post by montemojo »

At least not around here, I thought some here might like to see this. A bear trap! No. 16 the springs are very strong. I stepped on one with all my weight (185 lbs) and the spring moved about 2 inches. You would definitely have to use some kind of tool to set this thing. I'm thinking its over priced at 800 bucks. Still worth looking at hope ya'll like it

Wow, what a contraption! Must be quite heavy, need a strong horse to lug that thing out into the mountains. .

That wasn't mine. I dont beleive in trapping animals in such things. Now some people I probably wouldnt mind but thats illegal too. You know thieves and child molesters and poachers. I can just imagine the pain that thing would cause.

Is it marked in any way?

The guys on American Pickers came across one once that turned out to be quite valuable, well over a thousand dollars.

That one looks too clean to have much age on it.

That's a heck of a contraption, quite crude as well. It would be interesting to set it off on a log or something like that.

That kind of trap is pretty cool. When I was young I used to dream of moving to the far north and being a trapper. Now I guess I would not have the heart for it, over the decades I have developed too much empathy for animals. I do believe I have seen those for sale in some outdoor catalog within the last few years.

Steel traps are only allowed with special permitting in Florida to remove nuisance critters. Snares and coni-bear traps are allowed under certain circumstances. Otters and bobcat have a regular season but coyotes, beaver, coon, possum, skunk and nutria are legal year round. Fox, red and gray, are not to be taken unless special nuisance permit. Have-a-heart traps are common for recreational trapper.
Need to have a law degree to figure it out.
