If your religion requires that you hate someone, you need a new religion.
When the people fear their government, that is tyranny. When government fears the people, that is freedom.

Re: Jerry Clower - Why Can't Johnny Read
I was just going through YouTube the other day looking for his story about when his cousin, or someone replaced the communion grape juice a the Baptist church with green persimmon wine.
Jerry Clower said they all whistled the clip closing hymn.
I never did find that story but had lots of laughs looking for it. He was a very funny guy!

A country philosopher who speaks the truth and also happened to be hilariously funny!

Having been a Jerry Clower fan as long as I remember, I cut an old article about Jerry out of my Sports Illustrated copy years ago. That article is now archived on line, and is still a great read, including the story of how Jerry came to play football for Mississippi State even though he had never before even seen a football game! http://www.si.com/vault/1973/04/30/6156 ... out-jayree

Sure miss seeing Jerry every year at the Tobacco Farmers Show in eastern NC (held years ago in Greenville and Goldsboro) - he was a funny, funny man. I feel like I would know Marcellus anywhere! OH
Deep in the guts of most men is buried the involuntary response to the hunter's horn, a prickle of the nape hairs, an acceleration of the pulse, an atavistic memory of his fathers, who killed first with stone, and then with club...Robert Ruark

My favorite story was about the barefoot boy on a bicycle that could outrun a Cadillac Coupe DeVille.

Me and the boys love Jerry Clower, and Carl Hurly too. Carl is from KY and is a lot like Jerry.
For those of you who have Pandora there is a Jerry Clower station and a Carl Hurly station too. Great stuff on both.
