What is this swiss army knife?

Post by anorak117 »

Hey guys my grandfather recentl_ gave me some knives, there were a couple knock offs and some of those store advertising ones but one is a legitimate swiss army officier suisse, with a twist. There is no shield stamp. Instead, there is a crissbow with a ring around it on the outside where the shield should be.

From what I could gather from some research with Google, it appears the crossbow symbol is William Tells crossbow and a emblem issued before 1970 by the Swiss government as a symbol of a quality product. At least that is what I got from this translated web site ---> https://www.jovoto.com/projects/victori ... deas/33291

"brand name for Swiss quality

Unfortunately, since the 1970s as a brand name for Swiss quality out of fashion get: The use of Tells crossbow as a stamp of quality.
If a Swiss product earns this stamp of quality, then this synonym for a Swiss product: "

Some images from that website and from AAPK member stressmaster5000's website. Stressmaster5000 is a SAK kind of guy who doesn't visit AAPK very often.

::welcome:: to AAPK, anorak, and thank you for sharing that rather unique (over on this side of "the pond" at least) SAK with us. In that circular form stamped onto classic red SAK handles I didn't really realize how often you see the "Suisse" or "Switzerland" crossbow logo, but after Jerry's valuable research I think most of us can probably now say we've seen it a few times in our cutlery travels (usually on those houndstooth/shield-shaped shields, I think).

I've never come across a SAK like yours so I imagine it can't be that plentiful -- you've got yourself a good'un and it's extra special because it came from your grandfather. I lost mine at 15 and wish to this day that he'd passed along some knives to treasure (he was more of a gun guy - still have his M1911 A1 and the ancient .30-06 he gave me for my first hunting rifle as a kid, both retired to honorary places on the wall), so you will probably enjoy carrying that Vic more than most! ::tu::
