The proto type has the early can opener mine has the later version. I also have the small sheepfoot and the punch on mine is like the punch on the prototype. I think I am getting more confused. My guess is its after WW2. Because of the can opener and the brass pins.

I will get a hold of a decent camera and try to take a better picture tomorrow. The S has square edges my phone cant capture. If this turns out to be a real mtn div. knife then I practically stole this one at 15 bucks.

I'm thinking, because of the bail, screw driver type, later can opener and the clip blade, that this is a post WWII put together knife. But, for fifteen bucks you still stole this knife. I'd loved to have found this one. Grrrrrrr8 find!!

The one next to the wide spring in the center is a spacer. Odd isn't it

That bail is a new one on me. All the official ones had U.S. on a shield and then later on the bail like the one I show below. The can opener was changed around 1945 right at the end of WWII. So from the looks of it your knife was made to be sold to the general public after the war.

Thanks Dimitri, thats what I was figuring when I read about the skinny bail. Still odd having the steel spacer with brass liners. I kinda think it was made from parts left over after the war. Thanks for all the input TJ and KJ.

Still a great knife, Monte. I wouldn't kick that one out of bed for whittlin' cedar. BTW, mine has brass outside liners too.
