Very Old Folding knife.. Anybody seen one? VERY UNUSUAL

Post by scottb1 »

Hi and thanks for taking the time to look at this knife.
I dont have a clue about knives but thought this old and interesting so bought it at a fleamarket.
Its vendor hadn't ever been able to get it open so challenge set i paid the man and struggled away for almost 2 houres.
Used half a can of WD40 and eventually got it open.

No makers marks at all... looks old though... i think maybe horn handle..

Maybe Its like an early variation of the butterfly knife or balisong,
but the grips rotate in opposite directions once the hidden latch is released.
Anybody ever seen one of the sort?

I have one . I'm pretty sure they are German but I don't have anything to back that up with. Mine is a regular trick Jack knife and the catch is farther into the middle of the knife so you have to slide the cap bolster quite a ways before you can spin the handles. No marks on mine either.___Dave

A couple or more years ago the owner of AAPK (Bryan) made the decision to disable the BB code for images. He did it because image hosting sites are not reliable for the long run. Accounts go dormant and the images disappear so he decided to enhance continuity of images on AAPK for the convenience of current and future research. This site has plenty of storage space so post away and the image will still be here as long as AAPK exists.

Very interesting knife.

There are collectors that really like knives with odd locking/opening mechanisms, Dr Howard Melnick for one, if indeed he is still active.

Interesting knife! I'd start by doing a search on eBay for "Pipe smokers knife". That will show current listings - A search for completed listings will bring up old sales.
