I've heard triple x's are the best cases, what that is supposed to mean I have no idea.ken98k wrote:"The more x's the better the knife, Case XX knives are okay but triple x's are better.

I've heard this twice. I made this knife out of a file. I look at it and it will have Anza on the back. I dont even argue I just agree and let them go on with their story

"Will that thing shave?"
Always amazes me that most people, even some "knife guys" think a blade has to shave to be really sharp. There's different kinds of sharp. Depending on what you're trying to cut, "shaving sharp", with a stropped polished edge, may not be the best kind of sharp.

What about when a guy pulls out his RR and says something like, "I have some CASE knives but they're too expensive to pack so I pack this. They're just as good as a CASE but a whole lot cheaper so WHEN I lose it, no big deal."

I've heard that type of thing before numerous times in the past. I just give them the look and move along.

That says to me that person doesn't really use their knife aside cleaning their fingernails, opening a letter or a package now & again.
If they really used their knives they would know they're NOT just as good as a CASE!!

Case knife with Red Bone handles.
Okay it's a Case knife but there is little or no sign of any red (you know RED like Crayola) color in the handles. Or the handles are actually pakawood, delrin, plastic, stag or even green bone.
There is a reason the price guides place a premium on old Case knives with red bone handles. In my mind the reason is not so every Case knife can be labeled as such by the seller. Fewer than one in ten old Case knives labeled as red bone that I see floating in the bay are what I consider to be true red bone handles.

I'll say this, the nicest bone handle knife I ever snagged off the bay was filthy dirty, and the seller thought it was wood. Wound up being a 1920 ish Challenge 2 blade jumbo jack.FRJ wrote:Is that wood? ...... No, it's bone. ...... Are you sure? ..............

I agree with and would like to second (or third) the comments on "near mint" or "polished to near mint." Here's another one that makes me cringe:
