Bone or Delrin?

Post by XX Case XX »

This has been bugging me for a while now. I have a 1975 Case 06244. I'm fairly certain they're bone, but sometimes the handles look like delrin to me so I'm going to ask you guys for an opinion.

Bone or Delrin? What say you? (Click on photos to enlarge)

Delrin. Three clues. The Delrin shield, no haversian canals in the handles and melted Delrin where the rocker pin has been spun.

I'm with Cuz for the same reasons.

I'm with J on this too. The melted area around the rocker pin makes it easy for even an inexperienced eye like me to tell it's Delrin.

The Delrin shield is the for sure marker. It has no oval around the letters.

Aside from the other reasons already mentioned, and as also pointed out, the Delrin shield is a dead giveaway.

Here's some info on Delrin. It is an acetal resin by Dupont. The Rogers Bone company was the first to make knife handles out of Delrin.

Another good way to point out that's it's delrin are the little symmetrical lines in the pits of the jigging. It's not on every delrin knife, but many have it and it's a dead giveaway when you can't see the top and bottom i.e. most ebay pictures. Some are more pronounced than others.

Being Delrin just makes it an even better user. I have no problems at all with good Delrin.

When you edc a knife you may tend to grow more fond of it as it becomes a regular companion. That makes it something minty unused knives aren't, no matter how nice they are.

Delrin is a wonderfully durable handle material. Don't sell it short.

Brother did you ever say a mouthful there. The knives I enjoy the most are the ones I force myself to put to work.

I've got to say some of the delrin knives look strikingly close to bone, some of them to t ::tu:: he point that you can't tell the difference with the naked eye, and there is no question as to it's durability
