My elephant toe is a 1974 case and I didn't see any like you had . does the elephant etched on the blade mean anything special?
I believe Case started putting the elephant etch on their toenails in 1974? (or 1973?) Older Case toenails did not have the elephant etch.
I personally prefer the term elephant toenail over sunfish, but that is just my preference.

Being new to AAPK do we delete our own post or does the admin. do it? I don't want anyone having to wait for space and my last one Unknown Maker has been there for awhile.

Here's a video first posted in another thread by Mitch Rapp. It's all about how Topps Knives (fixed blades) are made. About ten minutes long, I thought it was pretty interesting and also belonged here. Thanks Mitch.

If you have the time, the second video about Ernest Emerson is pretty good too. Also about ten minutes.

Joe - ::rotflol:: ::rotflol:: ::rotflol:: ... and I thought those were tuxedos :D ... Truth is I probably would have read this & believed you when I first started this knife "craziness"... I didn't know any better back at that time - though wouldn't have taken me long to research it and find out ::nod:: .. fact is I never realized even knowing they were elephant toe nails how big they were until I saw a few in hand... I want one for sure but patience is a virtue in finding the right one for me....

Jerry - thanks for posting that link to the Bose shop - pretty cool photographic tour ::tu:: ::tu:: ... I am trying to educate myself more on the knife making process... always something to learn

John (Lansky1) has posted a thread with videos showing a GEC factory tour. Thank you John. I thought it was an excellent thread for both new knife people and old and that it belonged here as well to help consolidate this kind of information.
John's thread -- http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kni ... =2&t=49056

GEC factory tour showing the steps it takes to make a complete pocket knife. Part one is 19 minutes long.

Part two is 18 minutes long. I'm glad to see that in part two, they finally got some safety glasses on "Dwayne".

The final step, part three is nine minutes long.

What do you mean, Mike? I just scrolled through the entire thread and only one video that was posted early on is missing and it was deleted from YouTube.

Two possibilities. One is you're running an ad-blocker or maybe script-blocker browser extension (AdBlock, Adblock Plus, ScriptSafe, Noscript, etc.) which is blocking objects from the server but still showing the text of the page. I don't know how this would impact being able to log in because I've always whitelisted AAPK. The ad-blockers should be the easiest to configure, just click on the program icon in the browser's toolbar (usually red, think stop signs) and uncheck the option that says "enable on this site" or "block this site", something similar to that. Script blockers might be a little more difficult but you'll need to allow or "trust" allaboutpocketknives.com at the minimum.

The other is that your browser itself is having trouble. Try another one if you have one. if you use Chrome, try Firefox. If you use Firefox, try Chrome. Opera is a decent alternate option. If it fails in all those browsers, I don't know what to tell you - possible corruption in your operating system. Too much for a forum like AAPK to fix, really. If it DOES work, and you want to fix your main browser, try going into the browser settings and clearing all the temporary files (cache, cookies, etc.), then review or reset your browsing settings to default. Try logging in again and see if it displays.

For my part I paged through the thread and everything looks good. Good luck in getting to the bottom of it. ::tu::

Thanks Tony....
I am at work so I might be getting this problem from our server.
I might just have to live with it.....
Funny thing is, everything else works. I see everyone's pics just fine.
AND, I listen to Pandora all day and the ads abound there so.... I am about sure the issue is with our server here.

Oh well.

What's your setup? What are you using to read AAPK and in what environment? (company PC in an office, Your home, on the go cell phone or tablet?)

Same set-up I have except my regular browser is I.E.. When you say you can't watch videos, I assume there is just some kind of blank spot where the video is posted??? Are you able to play videos on the YouTube web site? You may not care for it but have you tried browsing with Internet Explorer?

Plus everything Tony (Tsar Bomba) said above.

For those folks who are experiencing difficulty in viewing YouTube videos at work, my guess is that your company is blocking YouTube via the company firewall. There are a few reasons for this:

1. Productivity. They want employees working and might believe that watching YouTube videos hinders productivity.

2. Bandwidth. Video consumes much more bandwidth than text or audio and bandwidth costs money.

3. Legal. Someone might feel "harassed" by video content on another employee's screen and sue the company for a hostile work environment.

If you're having difficulty on a non-work network it might be a browser setting such as not allowing Adobe Flash to play or auto play.

yes there's a big blank spot. I have no problem seeing you tube videos on my browser. if I go to you tube. do a search, or even from other forums I belong to. can someone just post the URL's to the videos? I'll just paste them into my address bar . or even just the name of the video and I'll do a google search.
