I came across this auction today for a Robeson yellow composition handled two blade jack with the single word, ROBESON, on the front of the tang and 4822 / GERMANY on the back.
Seller stated the knife was made between 1894 and 1896.

I wrote and told him the knife was actually from the mid-1950's. He replied that he had been informed the knife was made before Robeson started their American manufacturing.
I wrote back and told him he had been misinformed and while it was correct that Robeson imported knives from both England and Germany between 1879 and about 1896, this was not one of them. It had neither the character nor the quality of the older knives.
He wrote back requesting documentary proof. He still thought the knife was from pre-1900.
I told him to leave his auction just as he had listed it and signed off.

About the only 'plastic' they had then would have been celluloid and that may be too early for that.
I don't think celluloid got popular for knife handles until the 1920 or 30s.
But the design of that knife is much newer than the 1890s!

Pretty hard to convince someone of something that's against their economic interest.

Seller ended the listing early because of an 'error in the listing'.
