Schrade+ USA LTD Boy Scout 5OT w/Herman Williams Stag Horn

Post by bestgear »

3 simply questions:
1). Is this legit and have you ever seen one before?
2). Why is a rehandled modern-day BSA Schrade commanding such a premium (presumably Mr. Williams rehandling)?
3). Anybody know the legacy of Herman Williams?

I'm not a buyer just curious so if your in the hunt tonight no worries. Thanks, Tom

1)He states that he rehandles the knife .So you know what you are buying.
2)Herman Willams is a respected knife rehandler (customiser ) and does a very good work.
3)The legacy is stated when he sells a knife.
He mainly does Schrade knives.I have purchased one of his knives
You will find he is a very good person to deal with.

Tom I'm not aware of a Schrade lockback that was an official Boy Scout knife. The knife pictured looks very similar to a Camillus lockback that was an official Boy Scout knife. It was produced with delrin handles. I think it's clear that the handles have been replaced on the knife shown and I'm of the opinion that the blade is a replacement as well.

Edit: After going back and actually reading the ebay listing I can see that the knife used may very well have been an LB5 by Schrade. The utilization of the Boy Scout shield makes it look very similar to the Camillus scout I previously mentioned.

Herman Williams has a serious following and his customized knives fetch a premium price. Heck, I wouldn't mind having that one myself. ::smirk::

Herman Williams is as legit as they come!
He started customizing knives in 1978 and I believe some of his creations were in the Schrade Factory. IIRC, he also did prototype work and special editions for Schrade.

Read the second edition of Jim Sargent’s Guide to Pocket Knives & Razors, page 392 for an article on Herman Williams.

They just don’t get more legit than Herman!
What amazes me is how cheap his knives sell!

I understand and agree with everything said about Herman Williams but I'm confused ::shrug::

Did Schrade produce a Boy Scout Knife in the 5OT pattern?

Dose anyone have an example of one?

Ozzie,

To the best of my knowledge Schrade did not produce an official Boy Scout knife in this pattern. I must presume the Boy Scout shield is part of the embellishment done by Mr. Williams, perhaps on request. (Pure speculation on my part here)
