Completed the Set

Post by jerryd6818 »

I've been working on completing this set of Puma Big Five Stockmans for several years and finally snagged the last two off eBay this past weekend. It's been a haul. They don't go for a lot of money but they also don't come up for sale real often. I had to send at least one back because it was described as never carried, never sharpened and it was both carried and sharpened. I thought I would feel some elation but frankly it's just been, yawn. I got my first one - the Cape Buffalo - off SMKW around 2000 and for several years, that was the only one I had until the "get 'em all" bug bit me. The rest I've picked up off eBay, one at a time except for the Elephant and the one with all five on it. They're 4" closed so they're not some puny minature.

Nice collection, Jerry. I have heard the Pumas are exceptional quality knives.

So what's next?

What's next? I'm still looking for Schrade Miracle Whip Anniversary knives I don't have. Trouble with those, no one seems to know how many years were made. I have seven, '58-'88 and I missed a 1937 Fourth Anniversary on eBay so I know there are at least eight. I would like to get a GEC #89 Executive Whittler so I would have one of each of the #89 patterns but other than that, it's just continue with my haphazard, helter-skelter accumulating. Thanks for asking.

Thanks IM. Not nearly as thrilling as your acquisition of those two Ohtas.

The thrill is in the hunt ain't it Jerry! :)
That is a nice set though. ::tu::

I know the feeling. After chasing the Boker Great American Story series for two years, now I barely look at them. (only once or twice a week, lol)
Now I'm looking for a Boker 7367 "Great Western" stockman to go with this box I got from Hawke about a year ago.

Always something to chase after and dream about ... ::nod::

Absolutely Blue. I liken knife collecting to the hobby of woodworking. There's never a shortage of "stuff" to buy, but I suppose any hobby worth it's salt is like that.

Getting the last two may have been a 'yawn' but I do like looking at them. ::tu::

Jerry you should consider collecting worn, rusty scout knives with broken punches.......there's a never ending supply of them to be had.

I don't have em all.

I have a few. I started down that road and ran into a 'Private Property - No Trespassing' sign. There scrawled on the bottom of the sign was the name 'Phil'.

That's cool. Nothing more satisfying than getting that last one or 2.

Now you can start a new search!
