This one belonged to my grandfather. I never met him as he passed long before I was born but my grandmother held on to this and gave it to me when she found out I was interested in knives. I think he got a good bit of use out of it :)

For a knife to outlast its blade really speaks of the quality of the joints and slabs. ::tu::

Here are a couple for review, the pearl is a Miller Bros., fairly uncommon in this pattern and the barlow is a Shapleigh Hardware - Diamond Edge.

I am sure this knife would have some stories to tell if it could only speak: A Charles Congreave stamped W crown R which was used from 1830 to 1837.Congreave was in business(according to BRL)from 1829 to 1843.The blade is marked Silver Steel and the stag scales are perfectle scaled to the size of the knife(approx.2 1/2" long)and mounted on integral liners/bolsters with birdseye rivets(literally a rivet within a rivet).A nice touch not visible in the picture is a piece of bone mounted in the rear to act as a blade stop when the blade is closed. The blade looks to have been a coping shape originally so this may have been used as a quill knife.

Love seeing all the knives with so much character. They've been around and served their purpose. If only they could tell their story. Here's my contribution to the thread. This one is in my pocket often. Bone handles still in great shape and still has solid snap on both blades.

Here is another one I seen recently, probably the most used up Sabre knife in existence!

 Someone either really, really loved that knife or was the most miserly person ever.
