An early German Folding Dirk

Post by doormann »

i'm a big fan of these fishtail dirks with the cross guard top bolster, and i have quite a few in my collection. this knife is 3 3/4" closed and 6 7/8" open, the blade is full and it has a tight lock up. i really love to find them in this condition. ::tu:: andy r.

That's a gorgeous knife! Wish I had found it. Nothing like the oldies.

A very nice knife, and an old one to boot. Goins lists R. KLAAS Prussia with the two cranes as c1834 to 1914.

I believe there are quite a few places on the internet where you could buy it. The full title is "Goins Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings". It was published in 1998 by Goins Antique Knives, P.O. Box 33525, Indianapolis, IN 46203. I went to my local small bookstore and asked the owner to order it for me, I don't know where he got it. I believe I saw in post the other day that Knife World has copies of it. You could also try ABE books for a used copy.
