I keep forgetting to post this Ulster from the 'bay.
I bought it for a user, but once it got here, it's just too nice to bugger up :)

Nice Ulster, Royal. It is funny, but when I was growing up in the sixties I always had one of those, but I do not remember the brand of a single one.

I neglected to add this info provided with the picture on scoutknives.net.
The only difference being the shield, I can only presume the dates match ::shrug::

" ULSC4G, BSA #1996 This was the first of the second-generation BSA Ulster knives. 3 3/4 long knife, brown jigged handles, smooth bolsters, round device with BSA eagle, Four blades: Shackle end has short combination cap lifter/flat blade screwdriver and awl, end opposite the shackle has main blade with short nick and can opener.Permanently attached shackle. Manufactured 1962-1979. "

The age along with the remarkable condition is why she's being spared edc duty ::super_happy::

Nice Ulster Scout you picked up Royal - only difference between Official BSA and generic "Scout Knives" (aka Camping knives) was whether or not the BSA got a royalty from licensing their trademark. At one time each manufacturer of Official Scout Knives had their own style of BSA shield. There must be thousands of variations of the old Boy Scout knife out there (to collect!) OH

This was my "good fortune" week. I won this splendid 1992 Case stag-handled 5318 Medium Stockman on a GAW hosted by Primble over at the Blade Forums - one of the most fun GAW's I have ever been involved in. Then I won an auction here at AAPK that Jerry is running for the benefit of our Wounded Warriors; our own Salerno Slim donated this fine Case Canoe to Jerry's auction - really pretty bone that my photography skills simply cannot capture (it's a 1974 to the best of my ferreting ability). The Canoe arrived on Wednesday (along with the Medium Stockman) - when he handed me the packages my postman remarked that I must have hit the jackpot - I sure did! OH

One note: the earliest Ulster Derlin Scout pattern Knives from the 1960's (1996 type), official and unofficial, will have the Awl/Punch blade you see in the scoutknives.net picture - rounded near the tip, concave along the back. The Awl of the 70's and 80's is more machined, flat on the back side and pointed at the tip.

Good to know. Thanks! Mine has the concave punch; rather unique.

Got these two beauties from Bob at Nutmeg Knives. I have been looking for this L.L. Bean auto for quite some time and I love the condition, better than the example in the book "Antique American Switchblades" especially the fullness of the blade. There is something special about "Butter and Molasses" scales, they have that Vintage look for some reason. I was always jealous of all the Butter and Molasses knives Perry has posted, and I am so happy to own one now. And...the Imperial is an awesome addition to my collection fires like a bear !!

Here's my latest, and my first Robeson. Kinda shot from the hip on this 'un. Seller's pictures were lousy so I knew I was taking a chance. Master blade is slightly tipped and some peek when closed. But I think I can shave the tang and make a good user out of her. Decent walk, talk, 'n snap.
:)
Might be a candidate for a bone transplant. ::hmm::

Are these be iron bolsters? Tang stamp is 542168. ☆

An impulse purchase bought these two Barlows, one a Colonial shell and the other a Utica Kutmaster with solid bolsters & handles. They were both pretty rough and the price reflected that but they cleaned up into a pair of fairly decent users. They'll be fine for try one knives.

This one marked "C. Leonard Petersburg, VA" came today. It's got a nice overall patina and no cracks or chips in the jigged bone. :)

Always looking for vintage knives with Virginia, Maryland, or Washington D.C. tang stamps. Any condition.
