it is 4 1/2inches long closed. is there a publication that lists these older knives, i have the case knife guide but it doesnt go back prior to 1920. any ideas for the value, it is a family heirloom, just curious. thanks for the informationrigwelder wrote:It should be about 4 1/2 closed and might be a 6111L pattern? I might be wrong,,just going by my memory. But Case did make that style of knife with the same shield. I've had a few Case Bros, and a WR. Case in the past.
This is what I was looking at too, I think the spear blade makes your knife very interesting. (Possibly rare) I believe that most of the 6111 in sargents were listed at between $ 300 and $ 700 for mint maybe more, I don't have the book in front of me now.danno50 wrote:Sargent's Guide to American Knives and Razors has sections for the early Case Brothers and WR Case but does not provide a complete listing of patterns made. There are quite a few photos of pre 1920 knives but none exactly like yours. There are about a dozen pics of 6111's and 5111's, but all are either sabre or clip blades and none have the same shield as yours. There are a half dozen or so photos of knives of different patterns with the same shield.
