Re: Charlie's passion
This is a great thread. I probably would not have considered picking up a Harness Jack, but after reading about their history and how Charlie had them made using the different leather punches I pulled the trigger on one of the few remaining.
Thanks Dave and Charlie.

Thanks Dave & Mike. I haven't had any problem with rust down here yet. We have central air and I keep a thin coat of oil on them. We were about ten miles from the destruction of Hurricane
Charley and have been lucky so far. A hit by a big one would have me worried.

Re: Charlie's passion
How about a close up of Charlie's newest HJ's. This run of knives was really well built from the examples I've seen. Good solid, stout action, great in hand old school feel, super jigging on the bone, the finest modern example of a working 1900's Harness Jack that I have held. They really went the extra mile on these!

Gorgeous knives guys, thanks for sharing.
While I like many a Jack pattern, can't really say I have warmed up to the Harness variety. But I have to admit the Ebony version GEC did, as well as the Bone one, look so good I had to get one myself. GEC #85 RHJ in Ebony is enroute. Might swing the bone handled version come payday as well.

Re: Charlie's passion
Alright, my #85 Harness Jack with Improved Punch came in last week and I got to say they are sweet as sweet can get.........
I already liked the #85 pattern after getting one of the regular versions in Cocobolo. But this Harness version just hits some of the right things for me.......
I also like the addition of the history/description they added to the packaging.......
Great slippie, and quickly became one of my favs from GEC.

I hope they do! The EO feature is nice looking, and downright usefull! "Pinching" a knife open can sometimes be really handy in a (wait for it . . . . . . . .) pinch!big monk wrote:Very Nice,2X !!!!!!!!!!!!!!______ I don't think it will be long, before GEC,comes out with their own, "'Easy Open"" jack ????

Re: Charlie's passion
big monk,
If they did them in Stag with this style of Punch I probably would pay the extra and get one. As much as I like Stag, the ones with the more conventional Punch ain't peaking my interest like these others. I was actually tempted at adding the Buffalo Horn Tidioute #85 to my order.......but either way I gotta watch my spending a bit. After the 3 GEC's I recently got, as well as the one I just ordered, I also recently picked up 2 Robesons, a older Remington and a Camillus, a Queen ACSB piece, as well as another Case Classic.

No you're not the only one that uses these kamagong. I use one all the time and so does knowtracks.kamagong wrote:A harness jack makes for a great using knife. It has a blade for cutting, and the awl comes in handy both for poking and scraping. Don't tell me that I'm the only one who actually uses one of Charlie's knives. They're too good to just squirrel away.

Loving that stag one, Perry. Is it a GEC or Queen?
Re: Charlie's passion
Well here's my first one from Mike at CollectorKnives. Ebony HJ5, fit and finish is great and would make a great user with that big main blade, pinchin and scrollin, how do you beat that? Well done Charlie!
