Bridge To NoWhere
OK. So the seller is our old friend Brett1959. That alone should make one suspicious of the knife's bona fides.
Beautiful knife. Great blades with long pulls and a nice master blade etch.. Wonderful bone handles.
I suspect the blades did not leave any factory anywhere in this particular frame.
That bone is just screaming Robeson to me. I think it's a Robeson 027 EO jack from the 1920's or 30's.
Robeson used some long pulls early on, but nothing that ever looked like these blades. Robeson's long pulls were more narrow.

Charlie,
Take a good look at the pen blade. Then look at this one he bought for parts.
By his own admission he states the pen blade was replaced

Re: Bridge To NoWhere
I agree, MB.
I looked at completed auctions for "Robeson", but it didn't go back but a couple of weeks and I neither saw, nor do I remember a Robeson 027.
Do you agree with me on the bone?

Re: Bridge To NoWhere
Look at the parts knife he bought, he actually reground the master blade into a pen blade, notice how far the long nail pull goes toward the tip?
Notice the jigged bone pattern on the original Bridge parts knife.
My question is, did Robeson use that exact same shield on that frame?

That pen blade looks like a cut down master to me.

Re: Bridge To NoWhere
My biggest complain about this kind of thing is at what point does the knife quit being what it was and become a POS?
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

I agree on the bone - Robeson. And on the pen blade, how often do you ever see a long pull on a pen blade on an older American made knife? That plus the pic posted confirms where the pen blade came from.

Re: Bridge To NoWhere
the red flag is raised when you notice the large kick on the pen blade. too much of an out of balance for an original blade. btw, who is this guy? i guess he has done something like this before.. almost had me hooked with the easy open, but too high for me anyways.

Re: Bridge To NoWhere
Robeson used that escutcheon shield on virtually every 027 EO and 029 swell-end jacks they made, also on their 3 5/8" swell-end harness jacks.
I agree the pen blade was made from the master harvested from that old Bridge cattle pattern.
It's already a POS. And, him lying about the knife or omitting the complete truth about the knife makes it a fraudulent POS.
Problem is, somebody will pay him about two bills for this knife and then leave a glowing feedback and the jerk will continue to roll on, making fake knives and selling them to the unknowledgible collector.
If every knife he's sold on Ebay had been properly diagnosed by its buyer and appropriate feedback posted, his rating would be about 33%, not 100% and his Ebay business would have long since gone the way of the DoDo.
What a crook.

The comments on long pulls on pen blades got me looking through some of my Catt's. I found 2 out of my collection.

Charlie, would you tell us how you really feel?
I agree with you 100%.
To say this seller has a rather sordid past would be putting it mildly.
This seller, M...fake, and "Ty" Colb are three peas in the same pod.

Re: Bridge To NoWhere
whatever the case is on this knife. i offered him $100, he countered with $165, i countered again with tops of $125...it sold for $150. i dont sell knives i appreciate just owming them, i would like for him to do his magic on some of my knives that are either boken or scales damaged...he does a fantastic job. i would have liked to have that knife just for inspection.
