Antique Empire horsemans knife

Post by gsmith7158 »

Here's one I suspect only because of the source. Any comments on the authenticity of the knife would be appreciated.

Master not maked and pen blade marked Empire tells me enough to have no interest in it.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Kj that's a good question. I have never seen one but the company was founded in 1856 when horses ruled the day so I would think it probable.

If those handles are stag they are the smoothest stag ever. They look more like wood and I have never seen a sportsman's knife with wood handles;although that is not to say they don't exist.

Handles are stag, probably an English knife to start with, probably replaced a broken pen blade with the marked one and then aged any worked areas match the rest of the knife. To my recollection I have never seen this pattern produced in the USA, most were English and I think I've seen a few German ones but it's been a while
