Another Catt

Post by galvanic1882 »

This one is curious, looks like the seller does not only sell knives! The pattern number is for this knife but it should be a barehead with bone handles according to the number?? Thoughts?

BTW, I love this pattern and wish I had a nice Catt with bone handles

Knife is in pretty rough shape.I wonder if the master is a replacement to make it useable. The pen blade doesn`t look to be stamped or it is worn off.

This knife looks you good to me. The lower looking bolster is a "cap" instead of a bolster according to the Mrs. Dewey Ferguson. A little rough but a lot of history.

I think that Cattaraugus sometimes made knives with the secondaries unstamped (like Case) so I don't think that is a problem, however, I looked up that pattern number in the Cattaraugus catalog reprint and it shows a bare headed jack, not a capped jack. The handle looks like composition especially the way the crack goes across the handle but it's hard to tell for sure from the pictures. The shield sure looks like a Catt to me.

Mike, according to an old Catt Catalog, the C after the 21269C indicates "Capped". The knife looks right to me. There is no indication that Cattaraugus ever had a designation for jigged black synthetic handles. The condition doesn't look up to your standards but this is a cool pattern. Here's a 21269 completed auction off ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/132067216699?ss ... 1561.l2649

Compare the nail nick between the OP knife and 1smartfella's.
