E.O. Jack Marked Robeson

Post by kootenay joe »

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Old-Robeson-Eas ... SwCGVX4uCD

I am not knowledgeable about Robeson Cutlery nor have i ever dealt with this seller. To me the bone jigging does not look typical for Robeson and the tang markings, esp. "Robeson" look more like the work of a vibrating tool than a die stamping.
This knife might be correct, all original, but i am asking here to further my own Robeson knowledge.

Looks absolutely correct to me.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Agreed, an absolutely correct Robeson EZ Open Jack.

There is something about old , pre-1948, Robeson tang stamps that most collectors and dealers do not know; they never have that so-called, determinative, black carbon in them. They almost look like they were acid etched, rather than stamped.
Here are a few representative stamps and some more of that bone.

Wow, what a great lesson. My sincere thanks for your replies. I learned that this style of jigging is Robeson and that a lack of 'crispness' in the letters on the tang is common with this brand.
Charlie, your EO jack with USA on the tang (U.S. Army ?) is perhaps the same knife ? I would have guessed it to be Imperial.
Now that 'everyone' knows of this fine all original Robeson E.O. Jack, my chance of winning it might have declined. Oh well, ya can't have them all. Where would you put them ?

Roland, that USA marked EZ Opener was in an Ebay group of four or five knives and I bought the whole group based solely on that bone and its jigging.

And, yes, the USA stood for U.S. Army.

The one you posted may well be Army issue, as well.

I won this Robeson EO Jack for what i think is a very reasonable price. My sincere thanks to anyone who might have held off bidding to give me a better chance of winning.
I will post my pictures of this knife when i have it.

Roland I was very tempted to put a bid on that knife but something told me not to. I'm glad now that I didn't knowing you were on it and ended up as high bidder. Congrats, you got a dandy knife there. ::tu::

Thank you Phil. I have 'stepped aside' twice recently in favor of another AAPK'er who had expressed interest in an ebay knife.
I am grateful for this AAPK way of sharing the opportunities. With time we all will get a turn to be the bidder.
