Could it be real?

Post by Whachatrdnon »

Hello everyone. Well let me start by saying I am a long time looker first time lister. Got a gem of knife or maybe not after reading so much about fake knives out there. First thing that caught my eye is that it has one steel liner and two brass liners. The other is the shield never seen one like but just haven't seen to many old ones to tell. Any advice is greatly appreciated as I do not want to pass on a fake knife to someone else.
Thanks,

I'm not a Case expert but it just does not look right to me. Stag doesn't look like any Case stag I've ever seen.

Sorry but a complete fake. Looks new because it is new. the stag handles are the most telling as far as new vs. old Tested era Case knives goes.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

It's a real knife, but I don't think it's ever seen a Case factory. The stag handles are not tested era stag, the stamps look fresh indeed the whole knife looks fresh. I do believe it's a fairly new knife.

Any Tested knife tang stamped on all blades deserve a very close inspection. There are some that are stamped on all
blades, but they are not seen as often.

Thanks for all the info so far. The handles were another concern of mine as they do indeed look new or have been placed on the knife. The pictures don't show it as well but there is the slightest separation from the bolsters. The owner of the knife says it is due to shrinkage but with all the red flags on this I think I am going to pass on this one. Thanks again, Mike

Those fake 47's are common in this area. Most collectors around here know where they come from. The guy that makes them sells them for around 50.00 or so and doesn't pretend they are real. When they get in others hands the game changes and it is buyer beware, not good for the knife business ::td:: ::td::
