Is this WR Case and Son C61050 legit?

Post by dhillbilly »

This knife was on EBay. Does it look legit to you all? If it is, does it date earlier because of the "son" instead of "sons"?

My opinion is also legit.

I like to do comparison views when I can to evaluate knives. The W.R. Case & Son knife you asked about is from years 1902 and 1903. My knife is the same C61050 pattern and is stamped W.R. Case & Sons which is from years 1905 - 1914. So they are not exactly from the same period, but are reasonably close. If you have access to Jim Sargent's reference book "American Premium Guide to Knives & Razors" 7th Edition you can see a picture of a W.R. Case & Sons C61050 with Rogers bone on page 80.

Anyway, these knives compare favorably to each other. The camera angle is a little different and my picture is a dark. When I first looked at the knife in question the jigging on the handles put me off, but after looking at them for a few minutes, I have convinced myself they are ok and their appearance is due to pocket wear.

Thanks for the replies. I spotted this knife on EBay just minutes before the auction end and took a chance. Not a real smart move on my part. I feel a little better about it now. Thanks!!

The knife showed up today!! Here are some better pics. I have really wanted an old Case but all the fakes out there have made me a little gun shy. This knife was too tempting and I foolishly bought it before I was sure. I hope this is a case of "it's better to be lucky than good." I would appreciate if the experts could help me decide if I am a lucky fool or just a fool :)

Thanks Wayne.
I spent way too much buying this, which I am okay with for a legit knife. But if it was a fake or a rework I would be seriously kicking myself. I appreciate the reassurance :)

Here's a link to some pics of my old 6251 that has been in my family since it was purchased by my Great Grandfather.

Stamp is different than yours but the tank isn't as wide either.

Willie's got Texas cow ponds on his mind.

He meant to say "tang".
