Waterville Mfg on EBay

Post by dhillbilly »

Does this tang stamp look right? The font is different and the "g" is spaced off. Some of the other letter spacing looks odd. Also never saw a Waterville with "Congress Knife" stamped on the blade. Any thoughts from the experts? A new version of Waterville Mfg tang stamp or something fishy?

There was an apostrophe between the F and the G, originally.

Fakers don't generally go to the trouble of making used appearing knives.

Well maybe it is just another tang stamp variation. Can anyone tell what stamp is on the small blade in the bottom picture. I'm assuming it's not the original blade.

I don`t know what the upper part of the stamp says,but it could be either Meridan or New Britain Conn.on the bottom.

Did you notice the long pulls are on BOTH sides of the main blade.

Ray, I missed that. ::facepalm::
Long pulls through the tang; doesn't that imply an older knife?

One other thing I noticed about this one is the handle - the front does not match the back side and don't think it is reflection... the long double pulls are strange but perhaps there was a reason for that back when they were made - I have no idea what the reason may have been - maybe the blade was sometimes used on front or backside ::shrug::

Handles are ivory and probably original to the knife. Color will vary with ivory has it ages depending on what part of the tusk it came from.
