Stag Russell Barlow

Post by just bob »

I was at this auction and saw Lot #58 was a stag Russell Barlow. I looked at it and asked the owner about it. He told me it was 100% straight. I passed on it and thought it wasn't original.

Now I see that AAPK's favorite Ebay seller has one that is remarkably like the auction knife. So there are at least 2 of them known to exist. I really wonder about these knives and if they are authentic? Any comments? The rocker pin looks way too far forward, compared to others and the stag is very seldom seen. The knife at the auction brought about $90. I have Windows 8 and can no longer snag pictures like I used to. In fact the system is so secure most pictures in my email are cut out. If you don't have Windows 8 delay that as long as you can. Headache!

Bob,
I am by no means a knowledgable Russell Barlow guy but I have been told that the ones with the offset middle pins were made in Germany, possibly unauthorized reproductions. I believe there is a thread fairly recent that covers them in depth.
The seller has been posted here many times for other knives.

The eBay knife looks terrible to me. I wouldn't buy anything from this seller.

Looks like he's at it again. This same knife sold in May with 9 bids for $55. Maybe he got it back from an unhappy buyer and decided to list it again. If I had bought it I would be very unhappy.

Most russels's iif not all the center pin will be centered in the middle of the scales, this knife may be a camillus. Someone posted some very good information on russel knives a while ago, take a look at that thread.
